Huge on the palate, the 2014 has tons of density, but less in the way of finesse and nuance. Initially there is a trace of reduction present though aggressive swirling is able to liberate a strikingly elegant

but I suspect time will be kind to it

While it lacks the weight of the top wines from the vintage

(from En Orveaux)

showing restraint and incipient elegance along with underbrush and hints of truffles

intense and rich medium-bodied flavors are supported by bright acidity on the ever-so-slightly lean but highly persistent finish where the sense of minerality really builds as it sits on the palate

Gualtallary is nowadays recognized as one of the highest

high-acid vintage

and loamy soil undertones

which may have also manifested itself with concentrated tannins
